According to the Small Business Administration in 2000, there are 8.1 million women-owned businesses in the US, and this number does not include home-based micro businesses. These businesses employ 27.5 million people and generate more than $3.6 trillion in sales. Women now own nearly 40% of all private businesses at twice the rate of men.
