Abstract
"A Haunting" explores the possible existence of supernatural entities and visually renders my personal encounters with spirit presences through poetry, sculpture, painting, performance, and video. My thesis work does not attempt to answer questions about these experiences, but instead provides visual impressions of them. I use the human figure to illustrate the dichotomy between presence and absence. The physicality of presence is referenced though the use of metals and the qualities of absence through the incorporation of gauzes and sheer fabrics. This body of work also explores the connotations and undertones attached to a figure or effigy when it is altered or destroyed.
