Abstract
This thesis project focuses on the use of folktales as a starting point to explore texture and pattern. The artist was striving to create a visual communication of folktales. Using physical layers in the paintings to create spatial depth as well as to express the idea of the building of layers as a metaphor for the story of life, the artist engages the viewer to relate this to the idea that culture is built from many different layers of stories over time.
