Abstract
Processed satellite data from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) generally consists of earth imagery which is obstructed to some extent by cloud coverage. Cloud-free images of certain geographic locations are valuable for numerous remote sensing applications. One way of obtaining a cloud-free image of an area is by the generation of a multitemporal composite. This involves generating images from consecutive satellite passes and selecting cloud-free areas from each day. These cloud-free areas can be pieced together to form a composite image clear of any cloud coverage. A study was conducted in which different methods of forming multitemporal composites from AVHRR sensor data were implemented and the final cloud-free images were compared.
