Abstract
This work presents three contributions to the National General Aviation Flight Information Database (NGAFID): a maintenance-linked flight dataset forpredictivemaintenanceresearch, anaviationchartprocessingservice, and an interactive geospatial heat map for post-flight event analysis. The first contribution is a maintenance-linked flight dataset for predic- tive maintenance and prognostics research in general aviation. The dataset contains approximately 100,000 non-simulated maintenance work orders and more than a million multivariate flight recordings extracted from NGAFID. Eachflightisassociatedwithmaintenancerecordsandlabeledaspre-maintenance, day-of-maintenance, or post-maintenance. Flights are exported as one-hertz sensor time series with flight-phase annotations, while a clustering pipeline groups technician-written maintenance records into event categories. To our knowledge, thisisthelargestpubliclyavailablegeneralaviationflightdataset linked to maintenance events. Because the recordings originate from routine fleet operations rather than simulation, they capture real-world variation across aircraft, pilots, seasons, and operating conditions. The second contribution is an aviation chart processing service that sup- ports geo-spatial analysis within NGAFID. The service downloads Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) digital chart products, including sectional, terminal area, IFR enroute, and helicopter charts, converts them into a uni- fied raster format, and serves them as map tiles for web clients. Chart updates are synchronized automatically with the FAA publication cycle. The third contribution is an interactive heat map for analyzing flight safety and operational events. The heat map visualizes detected events us- ing temporal, aircraft, severity, and geographic filters. Event density can be explored over multiple map layers, including processed aeronautical charts, providing context for where and when events occur relative to airspace, ter- rain, and other aviation features.
