Abstract

This paper examines the historical relationship between policing and media, with a focus on how media has influenced policing within the United States. It begins by examining portrayals of policing in print and broadcast media, as well as major historical events, before discussing how media influences public perceptions of police. The paper then transitions to an examination of social media, focusing on how these platforms shape perceptions of police and how they are used by the public in relation to policing. The paper then concludes with a discussion of policing and media-related policies and reforms, as well as considerations for the future of policing in an evolving media landscape.
