Abstract
Mainly, this research proposes a future study for sustainable transportation systems in the city and the importance of applying these systems in Dubai to prevent accidents, to make it more sustainable and save more lives. It will identify the practical actions and results of applying these technologies and their social, economic, urban, and environmental effects. These actions will increase the growth of the economy and the quality of life in Dubai City by achieving their transportation sustainability objectives. Another goal of the research is to foster the association between city shareholders, construction companies, government, and traffic officers to apply sustainable transportation improvements, which prevent the increasing rate of accidents in Dubai. The research will also educate all shareholders and raise essential awareness about the importance and awareness of sustainable transportation. Finally, it will create recommendations and strategies to promote the achievement of a sustainable transportation system, including the implementation of autonomous vehicles and the construction of smart roads. The main focus of this research is How can autonomous vehicles and smart road technologies be implemented in Dubai to enhance road safety and reduce the frequency of traffic accidents? also to explore in what ways can a centralized control tower contribute to alleviating traffic congestion in Dubai, and what are the potential challenges and benefits of such a system? The research comes with a mixed-methods approach, integrating both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. This includes data collection from various sources like the RTA traffic department, scenario planning to explore future uncertainties, and system thinking to analyze the complexities of urban transportation systems in Dubai using causal loop diagrams, ending with how could be the roadmap if Autonomous vehicles adoption and the Central Control Tower. A suggested merger brings a decrease, in traffic incidents and congestion even it reaches to zero accident with negligible congestion, providing economic and environmental advantages while enhancing the general standard of living through ensuring safer and more effective city movement. The detailed plan presented lays out a strategy spanning 45 years in line with Dubai’s enduring sustainability objectives, in development. However, the proposed solution in this research goes beyond only the immediate safety issues to huge challenges like environmental effects and traffic congestion. The implementation of an autonomous vehicle controlled by a control tower introduces stronger system that adapts to current traffic changes and promotes safety, leading to a more sustainable and effective urban transport environment. In conclusion, this research pushes for implementing centralized control tower and autonomous vehicles that address the limitations associated with individual self-control of vehicles in congested areas. The solution also aims to change the transportation system in Dubai by offering an adaptive and dynamic system that ensures the environment's sustainability, effectiveness, and safety. Therefore, using a control tower system and autonomous vehicles provides a practical step toward improving the future of transportation in Dubai and reducing traffic issues.
