Abstract

Based on the student's growth background, the thesis paper compares the historical development of Shanghai and Rochester and explores their social status, as it may be defined within discarded objects in the urban landscape. The student believes that the traces contained by those abandoned objects bear witness to the transformations in the city as time has evolved. Inspired by the expressive mode of the "Internet Celebrity Exhibition," a popular artistic form in recent years, the student created three sculptures as a complete thesis show: "Cyber-revelry," "Dumpster," and "Waltz" These sculptures have an interactive relationship through the use of mechanical operations and strive to reference contemporary social developments. The presentation uses discarded objects from the local environment and abstract expression to explore contemporary social issues, including explosive urban development, information overload, the pervasive impact of social media, and strategies for managing negative emotions. This thesis paper will explain the exhibition by providing a detailed description of each of the three sculptures, guiding the viewer in the critique of issues involving material waste and the impact of conforming trends that have emerged within the urban environment in the media era. The ultimate goal is to inspire deep reflection among the audience of the prevailing chaos of our current times.
