Abstract
What will A.I. look like in the near future, and how will we incorporate it? In the past decade, I have seen personal assistants like Siri and Alexa become common. I believe that the next leap in personal assistants will not be a new personality entirely but one our own choosing. Legacy is a short fiction film that offers a glimpse into the life of a programmer named Wright, who works at an A.I. company called Legacy. Legacy is a subscription-based A.I. personal assistant developer that creates a likeness of historical persons and celebrities. Following the recent death of Wright’s friend Ray, he uploads her likeness into the Legacy algorithm. Wright claims this is to help his fiancé, Ana, get over the loss. Mickey, a colleague of Wright, discovers this and immediately warns Wright of the unethical direction his action could take the company; that creating individuals with the intent to be real replacements will open a Pandora’s box none can predict. When Ana stumbles upon the A.I. version of Ray on Wright’s phone, her feelings of betrayal are confirmed when the A.I. reveals the truth of the empty relationship between Ray and Wright.
