Philosophy of Journal of Interactive Humanities

For more information, please see Journal of Interactive Humanities Aims and Scope page.

Author Guidelines for Submission

These instructions give you guidelines on preparing papers for JIH. To ensure a uniform style, your paper will be formatted by RIT's Scholarly Publishing Studio before publication. Please submit papers in Word or RTF file format.

  1. Authors and affiliations are to be added only after blind peer review is complete and the paper is accepted pending revisions. Then, list author names, affiliations, and email.
  2. Abstract: Do not cite references in the abstract.
  3. Key Words: Use approximately four to six key words or phrases using title caps, in alphabetical order, and separated by commas.
  4. Use italics for emphasis; do not underline.

Interactive Media/Supplemental Files: This journal supports the inclusion of interactive media. For embedded material such as Flash files (swf) and movie clips please insert a reference within the text (ie: "swf file 1 goes here"). Upload the files separately during submission. File names should match in text references.

Non-proprietary file formats (TIFF, HTML) or widely accepted (PDF) files are preferred for preservation purposes, but any file type can be submitted. Please write thorough descriptions of what the file contains in case long-term preservation is not possible.

Helpful Hints on Grammar & Clarity

  1. Define abbreviations and acronyms the first time they are used in the text, even after they have already been defined in the abstract.
  2. Abbreviations that incorporate periods should not have spaces. (ie: U.S. instead of U. S.)
  3. A parenthetical statement at the end of a sentence is punctuated outside of the closing parenthesis (like this).
  4. Periods and commas are within quotation marks, "like this."
  5. Avoid contractions. (ie: do not instead of don't)
  6. The journal editor is in a position to require an article to be copyedited prior to publication if it does not meet standards. Any copyediting fees associated with getting the article up to publishing standards for the journal are the sole responsibility of the author.
